Fey Insect Dispersing Hallucinogenic Dust
Habitat: Forest, Grassland, Hill, Swamp; Treasure: None
A warblebutter is a mesmerizing fusion of butterfly, dragonfly, and serpent, its vibrant body adorned in blues, whites, oranges, and yellows. Its reptilian face features large, bug-like eyes and fuzzy antennae, while a long, prehensile tail tapers to a fine tip. With rapidly fluttering wings, it can hover effortlessly in place.
Warblebutters are harmless, feeding on small insects and displaying an innate curiosity. They avoid conflict, preferring to bewilder threats before making an escape. Those who provoke a warblebutter describe the experience as a chaotic, dreamlike haze. The creature’s wings release a shimmering dust that can both illuminate the area and entrance those who inhale it.
Some pioneering clerics have studied warblebutter dust as a potential treatment for mind-altering conditions, hoping its uplifting effects could relieve mental distress. However, their efforts are hindered by the dust’s fleeting potency once harvested, making widespread use difficult. It would be difficult for each patient to care and harvest their own warblebutter.
Halflings, drawn to the warblebutter’s effects, sometimes seek them out for a shroom-like journey. Each warblebutter induces a unique experience. Roll once on or choose a result from the Warblebutter Experience table to inspire how a creature perceives its effects.
