Finnegan, a gnome with the extraordinary gift of keen eyesight, possessed the unique ability to perceive the smallest denizens of the natural world—creatures he affectionately called mites. Although others regarded him as peculiar, he was entranced by the microscopic realm of these beings. As a druid, Finnegan assumed the responsibility of safeguarding this hidden world. Within his community, he crafted specialized protective wards and barriers on frequently used surfaces, establishing an imperceptible shield for the mites.
Upon ascending to archdruid, Finnegan found his barriers slowly deteriorating. His solution to preserve the mites’ existence involved revealing them to others so that they too could value and honor their presence. Through meticulous research and practice, he devised a ritual to permanently enlarge these diminutive creatures. He conducted experiments on the mites inhabiting his home, and the ritual proved successful, creating the first giant mites. Unfortunately, the mites lacked the same reverence for Finnegan and perceived him as a source of sustenance, leading to their unexpected consumption of the unwitting archdruid.
