High in the peaks of snowy mountains and deep within glaciers are ancient libraries that are home to frost wizards. They are taught to manipulate the elements of ice and snow, using the principles of weaving as a guide for creating beautiful and devastating spells. A frostweaver is often an accomplished artisan and can be found in towns and cities in cold environments.

One of the first frostweavers was Digan Snowborn, a mountain dwarf, who spent a great deal of his later years developing new spells based on his experiences in the frozen north and the highest mountain peaks. He later brought his work to one of these ancient libraries to share with instructors and students alike.

Studying magic within such cold environments can leave a physical manifestation. The Cold Manifestation table provides examples.

Tools of the Trade

2nd-Level Frostweaver Feature

You gain proficiency with weaver’s tools. If you already have this tool proficiency, you gain proficiency with one other type of artisan’s tools of your choice.

Coldsnap

2nd-Level Frostweaver Feature

You twist the arcane elements of a spell into an intricate pattern of freezing cold. When you cast a spell that deals damage, you can change the damage type to cold.

Frost Weaving

2nd-Level Frostweaver Feature

You intertwine threads of magical ice to empower your spells. When you use a spell slot to cast a spell that deals cold damage, you can apply one of the following effects:

Ice Barrier. You gain temporary hit points equal to three times the level of the spell slot used.

Frozen Surface. One creature dealt damage by the spell must succeed on a Strength saving throw against your spell save DC or fall prone.

Frostbite. One creature dealt damage by the spell can’t regain hit points until the start of your next turn.

You can use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest.

Cold Envelope

6th-Level Frostweaver Feature

Severe cold weather has hardened you. You have resistance to cold damage.

Additionally, when you use a spell slot to cast a spell, you can extend this benefit to creatures of your choice within 10 feet of you until the start of your next turn.

At 14th level, the range of this aura increases to 30 feet.

Clinging Ice

10th-Level Frostweaver Feature

Frost and ice linger from your cold spells. When you deal cold damage with a spell, you can choose one creature dealt damage this way to be mired by ice. The creature takes an additional 1d6 cold damage and it must make a Constitution saving throw against your spell save DC. On a failed save its speed is reduced by 10 feet until the start of your next turn.

At 14th level, the damage increases to 2d6 cold damage.

Triple Thread

14th-Level Frostweaver Feature

You create complex and intricate lattices of arcane cold that you layer on your spells. When you use your Frost Weaving feature, you can apply each of the effects to the spell.

Additionally, when you roll for initiative, you regain one expended use of your Frost Weaving feature.
