In the black heart of the Underdark, where umbral beasts roam, lies a being dreaded by many and grasped by few: the Mother of All Cloakers. This ancient being, said to birth the cloaker kin, bears immense might and insight.
The Mother spins her brood from shadows themselves, infusing them with her essence, nurturing until they’re ripe to wander. Among her kin, one curious young cloaker, struck an odd bond with a band of wanderers.
Drawn by the surface world’s allure, the cloaker bargained its knowledge of the Underdark for the adventurers’ protection and kinship. Meanwhile, a famed enchanter found fascination in cloakers’ enigmatic ways. Through chance, she met this wandering cloaker and its comrades, joining their party.
In an act of betrayal, the enchanter siphoned the cloaker’s power into an enchanted cloak, forging the cloak of the cloaker. The garment granted sight in darkness, unmatched stealth, and the power to blind foes with a toss.
When the Mother of All Cloakers learned of the enchanter’s trickery, she sent her shadow-agents after her; those caught wearing a cloak of the cloaker are to be killed on sight.
