When I discovered the boots of walking, I knew what I had to do. I attached them to an old ale barrel, its wood darkened by years of faithful service. The moment I finished, it started to shuffle, wobbling about like a newborn foal. It was a quick learner though and was soon walking with conviction.
With a proud grin, I set off down main street, my walking barrel following closely behind. It must have been a sight to behold, a halfling enchanter and his barrel strutting along in tow. People stopped to stare, some chuckled, and others offered slow applause.
The barrel became a bit of a local curiosity. It bumped into a few folks, sent a stray dog yapping, and even managed to spill some ale on a grouchy old dwarf who didn’t seem to appreciate the gesture. But then again, free ale is free ale.
By the time we reached the tavern, a crowd had gathered, all eager to see this barrel of ambulation. I presented my invention with grand flair, and the tavern owner rolled his eyes but poured a round for everyone. “One for the barrel, too!” I shouted, and the crowd roared.
Boots of Walking
Wondrous Item (Boots), Uncommon
As an action, you can attach these boots to or detach them from an object that is not being worn or carried. It must be of Medium size or smaller and weigh 100 pounds or less. If additional weight is placed on it the boots detach.
The object is immobile while you are within 20 feet of it. If you move more than 20 feet away from it, the object walks behind you at a speed equal to your movement speed so that it remains within 20 feet of you. The object will try to walk around impassable terrain it encounters, but if it is ever more than 100 feet from you, the boots detach.
