Swamp-Dwelling Predators With a Nauseating Stench

Bogetis are large, fur-covered creatures that dwell in swamps. Explorers who first encountered them thought of them as bog yetis. Their thick fur is often matted with twigs and overgrown with moss, and their wide mouths allow them to devour large prey with ease—even pausing mid-battle to consume fallen victims.

These creatures are highly social within their family groups but fiercely territorial toward other bogetis. When multiple bogeti groups inhabit the same swamp, they instinctively avoid each other’s territories to prevent violent, often fatal conflicts.

The bogeti’s defining feature is their overwhelming stench, caused by the blood and fluids of their prey soaking into their fur. The combination of the various remains that have caked the fur and how long it has decayed create a distinct smell for each bogeti. Creatures with keen noses can easily distinguish one bogeti from another by scent alone. Roll once on or choose a result from the Fur Scent table to inspire the specific odor of the bogeti.

Bogeti


Bogetis are ambush predators, lying in wait and attacking when prey wanders too close. They can intensify their already revolting stench, overwhelming victims with nausea and debilitating physical reactions.

Traits


Hold Breath. The bogeti can hold its breath for 1 hour.

Stench Aura. Constitution Saving Throw: DC 15, each creature in a 15-foot Emanation originating from the bogeti when its turn ends. Failure: The target has the Poisoned condition until the end of the bogeti’s next turn. Success: The target is immune to the Stench Aura of all bogetis for 1 minute.

Swamp Camouflage. The bogeti has Advantage on Dexterity (Stealth) checks made to Hide in swampy terrain.

Actions


Multiattack. The bogeti makes one Bite attack and two Claw attacks.

Bite. Melee Attack Roll: +8 to hit, reach 5 ft. Hit: 18 (3d8 + 5) Piercing damage. If the target is Large or smaller, it has the Grappled condition (escape DC 15).

Claw. Melee Attack Roll: +8 to hit, reach 5 ft. Hit: 12 (2d6 + 5) Slashing damage.

Toxic Odor (Recharge 5–6). Constitution Saving Throw: DC 15, each creature in a 15-foot Emanation originating from the bogeti. Failure: 28 (8d6) Poison damage and the target has the Incapacitated condition until the end of its next turn. Success: Half damage.
