When I found the dagger, It weren’t much, just a bone handle, nice ‘n smooth, an’ a silver blade. But it felt right in me hand. Didn’t know it at the time, but it were the weapon of life and death. Heard the stories in dark alleys an’ taverns, of a dead thing an’ a holy thing, locked in a fight for all time, cursed an’ bound together. Thought it was all just talk, but now I got it.
Later, I found a fat merchant sleepin’, all comfy-like in his fancy sheets. Stupid fool didn’t see me comin’. I crept up slow, nice an’ quiet, me dagger in me hand, feelin’ warm. When I stabbed ‘im, the blade shone bright, like the sun itself, an’ I felt a strength rush into me. But just as quick, it went real cold. Death.
The guards came then, like I knew they would. I spun around, blade ready. First one charged me, but I sliced ‘im open, an’ the wound turned black. He looked at me, eyes wide, like he’d seen a ghost, and he fled. The next guard, he just froze. I could see it in his eyes. He wanted to run too. I laughed, twirlin’ me blade. “C’mon then,” I said, “let’s see who dies first.”
