The Vault: Pocket Shop

Along their travels, enterprising adventurers, on rare occasions, would stumble upon an ancient imp merchant named Barterblix. As a shrewd master of trade and planar travel, he would offer his wares to unsuspecting souls in exchange for their most precious possessions.

However, as rumors of Barterblix’s exploits spread throughout the planes, a group of powerful interdimensional merchants known as the Consortium sought to capitalize on his success. They brokered a deal with Barterblix, making a dark offering for his cooperation in creating a portable means of commerce for adventurers. The exact nature of the bargain is unknown, but likely involves a large number of souls procured by the Consortium.

Thus, the pocket shop was created—a tiny chest imbued with powerful enchantments that, when activated, expands into a fully-stocked general store, complete with shelves laden with goods of all kinds. At the heart of each pocket shop resides an imp familiar, often bearing a striking resemblance to Barterblix himself, ready to trade with any who seek its services.

Most arcane scholars are unaware of the exact history of the pocket shop. Some believe it to be a gift from the Consortium, bestowed upon worthy adventurers as a tool to aid them in their quests. Others speculate that it was crafted by a secretive adventurers’ guild, seeking to provide young initiates with a means of acquiring essential supplies while on their journeys. However, with its fiendish origins and the mysterious nature of its creation, many wonder what price may ultimately be paid for the convenience it provides.

Pocket Shop

Wondrous Item, Uncommon

This tiny chest weighs 1/2 pound. As an action, you can place the chest in an empty space on a solid surface and speak the command word to activate it. The chest grows to Medium size and pops open, displaying a small general store run by an imp vendor. The imp will sell any non-magical armor, weapons and equipment for standard prices to you and your allies. It also has 1d6 healing potions for sale. It will also purchase items in good condition for half price.

At the DM’s discretion, you can commission a common or uncommon magic item from the imp, paying the full price up front. The next time the chest is activated, the imp will give the item to whomever activates it.

After an hour or as a reaction to hostilities, the chest will instantaneously close and return to its original size. It cannot be activated again until 7 days have passed.
