Monster I'd Like to Fight: Pastie

Pasties are small fey covered in oily skin and fur in captivating shades of blues, purples, and greens, with eyes that glow a vibrant orange. Each pastie wields a signature staff covered in hardened glue, the source of their unique adhesive magic. They are driven by an insatiable craving for gold coins, similar to a dragon, but instead of hoarding them, they consume every one they find.

Pasties prefer the wilds and shun towns, seeking out campsites and unsuspecting travelers to play mischievous pranks on. Their victims often wake to find themselves glued to their bedrolls while their belongings are mysteriously stuck to nearby objects. The only trace of their gold coins are golden crumbs left behind from the pasties’ midnight snacks. Survivors of these encounters share tales of their possible origins, speculating that they might come from a plane of glue, are the result of a toxic adhesive spill in the fey realm, or even spawn from expired sovereign glue. Where ever they come from, the only way to permanently destroy a pastie is with universal solvent.

Pastie Adhesive. A creature affected by pastie adhesive is restrained for 1 hour. A creature within 5 feet of a target restrained in this way can use its action to make a DC 15 Strength check to carefully free the target or to forcefully free the target, dealing 10 (3d6) slashing damage to it. On a successful check or after forcefully freeing the target, the effect is ended on the target.

Actions


Multiattack. The pastie makes two Blunt-end Bash attacks and one Sticky Swing attack.

Blunt-end Bash. Melee Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 11 (2d6 + 4) bludgeoning damage.

Sticky Swing. Melee Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 14 (3d6 + 4) slashing damage and the target must succeed on a DC 15 Strength saving throw or be affected by the Pastie Adhesive trait.

Tacky Bond (Recharge 5–6). The pastie chooses two creatures it can within 120 feet of it and within 60 feet of each other to magically pull together. Each creature must make a DC 15 Strength saving throw, taking 21 (6d6) force damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one. Additionally, a creature that fails its saving throw is moved to the nearest unoccupied space next to the other creature (or halfway if they both fail) and is affected by the Pastie Adhesive trait.

Bonus Actions


Golden Snack. The pastie searches the carried belongings of a restrained creature within 5 feet of it. The pastie makes an Investigation check with a DC equal to the target’s Wisdom score. On a success, the target loss up to 14 (4d6) gold coins as the pastie consumes them. The pastie regains a number of hits points equal to the amount of coins consumed.
