Monster I'd Like to Fight: Dhampbears

Vampiric-Cursed Druids Trapped in Bear Form

Habitat: Forest, Mountain; Treasure: None

A rare and tragic fate befalls a druid afflicted by vampirism while shape-shifted into a bear. The transformation becomes permanent, resulting in the creation of a dhampbear. These creatures often lose all traces of their former humanity. Their new form is marked by elongated fangs, pointed ears, and glowing eyes.

Dhampbears are most dangerous when wounded or cornered, entering a feral rage that makes them even deadlier. This shift is accompanied by noticeable changes in their appearance or behavior. Roll once on or choose a result from the Bloodied Behavior table to inspire the moment the dhampbear becomes Bloodied.

Bloodied Behavior

1d8When Bloodied, the Dhampbear …

4Exhales a frosty, visible breath.
5Foams at the mouth.
6Moves in an erratic, jittery motion.
7Snaps and bites wildly at its enemies.
8Stands tall on its hind legs and roars.

Dhampbear

After awakening from hibernation, which can last years or even decades, dhampbears rampage through forests and settlements, leaving trails of destruction. Their insatiable hunger drives them to slaughter entire villages before retreating to bury themselves in the earth for another long hibernation.
