The Vault: Boltergeist

In the dim-lit corners of weathered taverns hushed tales of a spectral relic are told – the boltergeist, a crossbow ensorcelled with ethereal essence drawn from the shadowed realms of the deceased. No quiver rests at its side, for the bolts it hurls are instantly fabricated from gossamer material conjured from the spirit world, wrought with a potency to manipulate the corporeal, guided by an unseen force.

Legend contends that it was created by a hunter of the undead, her spirit melding with her beloved crossbow upon the threshold of mortality. Bound by purpose, her battle eternal, a weapon in pursuit of the restless dead.

Others speak of a darker genesis, where a fiendish killer, steeped in nefarious rites, tethered his victims’ souls to the boltergeist, infusing it with their anguished essence. Through unholy sacrament, it became a vessel of torment, wielding power from beyond the grave.

Yet, the most sinister tales trace its creation to the hands of a powerful death cleric, devoted to the gods of the nether realms. Through profane rites, he imbued the crossbow with blasphemous power, a tribute to the deities of decay and demise.
