Monster I'd Like to Fight: Boil Giant

Boil giants are one of the many minions of hags. These creatures are the unfortunate victims of a painful curse that transforms them into unrecognizable servants of hags. This curse is inflicted upon hill giants and manifests initially as small, reddish bumps on their skin. Over time, these bumps grow larger and change in color, taking on a whitish-red hue while filling with a corrosive liquid. As the curse progresses, the pain intensifies along with the acidity of the liquid within the boils. If these boils rupture, they unleash a dangerous spray of acid, posing a threat not only to the afflicted creature but also to those in proximity. The death of a boil giant can be nearly as deadly as when it was alive.

In addition to the painful boils, the curse gradually distorts the creature’s appearance and physical form. Over the course of months, their skin loses its elasticity, and any hair and fur is lost. The overlapping growths caused by the curse can lead to a grotesque, misshapen form, often resulting in the loss of distinct facial features.

Bursting Boils. Whenever the giant is dealt damage, a boil on its body bursts, spraying acid. Each creature within 5 feet of the giant must succeed on a DC 15 Dexterity saving throw or take 7 (2d6) acid damage.

Actions


Multiattack. The giant makes two Fist attacks.

Fist. Melee Weapon Attack: +8 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 12 (2d6 + 5) bludgeoning damage plus 3 (1d6) acid damage. If the target is a creature, it must succeed on a DC 15 Wisdom saving throw or be cursed with acid boils. Whenever a cursed creature finishes a long rest, it gains 1d4 acid boils. A creature can have up to 4 acid boils at once. Whenever a creature with acid boils is dealt damage, a boil is destroyed and each creature within 5 feet of it must succeed on a DC 15 Dexterity saving throw or takes 7 (2d6) acid damage.

Rock. Ranged Weapon Attack: +8 to hit, range 30/120 ft., one target. Hit: 27 (4d10 + 5) bludgeoning damage.
