Aireqaix are small symbiotic aberrations that were initially created with the intention of controlling humanoid populations and enslaving them. However, as they grew to comprehend the suffering caused by their actions, they underwent a transformation. Instead of perpetuating oppression, they chose to bestow empowerment upon individuals possessing untapped psychic potential, enabling them to liberate themselves from their oppressors.
In their unbound state, aireqaix move slowly, crawling along surfaces and relying on their innate ability to evoke fear when confronted with danger. When an aireqaix encounters a creature harboring dormant psionic abilities, it establishes a telepathic connection, aiming to persuade the creature to enter into a symbiotic union. In return for psychic enhancement, the aireqaix gains protection and acquires a lifelong companion.
Aireqaix possess remarkable longevity, often spanning thousands of years, and form bonds with multiple hosts throughout their extended lifespans. Within the framework of their symbiotic relationship, aging hosts frequently aid the aireqaix in finding new partners before their own passing. While the transfer process itself is brief, taking only minutes, the newly bonded host may require up to a month to fully manifest and master their awakened psychic powers.

Actions
Multiattack. The enlightened makes three Mind Blast attacks. It can replace one attack with a use of Spellcasting.
Mind Blast. Melee or Ranged Spell Attack: +6 to hit, reach 5 ft. or range 90 ft., one target. Hit: 17 (3d8 + 4) psychic damage.
Disorienting Burst. Purple energy explodes in a 10-foot-radius sphere centered on a point within 60 feet of the enlightened. Each creature in that area must make a DC 15 Intelligence saving throw. On a failed save, the creature takes 27 (6d8) psychic damage and is stunned until the end of its next turn. On a successful save, the creature takes half as much damage and isn’t stunned.
Spellcasting (Psionics). The enlightened casts one of the following spells, requiring no spell components and using Intelligence as the spellcasting ability (spell save DC 15):
- At will: detect thoughts, mage hand (the hand is invisible)
- 1/day each: command, etherealness, hypnotic pattern, telekinesis
