The bag was hidden under a dismantled hive at an abandoned apiary. Its leather was old, frayed at the edges, but it felt right in my hands. Collecting insects had always been my thing. I stuffed the bag with beetles, spiders, and worms. The bugs wiggled and squirmed, their tiny legs scratching against the leather in a comforting manner as I lay my head upon it.
Days passed, and I noticed something strange. The bag seemed heavier, but not with the weight of the insects I had put in. I reached inside and pulled out a fat, wriggling larva, much larger than any I had collected. It throbbed in my hand, pulsing with an odd energy. I threw it down, and before my eyes, it transformed into a massive spider, its legs spreading wide as it bowed before me.
The bag had changed, somehow. It was no longer just a place to store my collection. Each time I reached in, I pulled out a new larva that could change into a different bug. Giant fire beetles, swarms of biting insects, and even an ankheg, its carapace gleaming in the dim light. The bag had become my bug-out bag.
Whenever invaders came, I used the bag to defend my clan. The other goblins marveled at my newfound power. The bag was my edge, and I guarded it fiercely. The insects had always been my friends, but now, they were my army.
Bug-Out Bag
Wondrous Item, Uncommon
As an action, you can pull a larva from the bag and throw it up to 20 feet. When the larva lands, it transforms into a creature you determine by rolling a d8 and consulting the table below. The creature vanishes at the next dawn or when it is reduced to 0 hit points.
The creature is friendly to you and your companions, and it acts on your turn. You can use a bonus action to command how the creature moves and what action it takes on its turn, or to give it general orders, such as to attack your enemies. In the absence of such orders, the creature acts in a fashion appropriate to its nature.
Once three larvae have been pulled from the bag, the bag can’t be used again until the next dawn.
