The Vault: Branch of the World Tree

In the beginning, the World Tree stood mighty. Its roots bound the planes, its branches touched the heavens. From its ancient boughs came the branch of the world tree, a gift to a circle of druids and rangers charged with the conservation of forests. These guardians of nature received a living branch, pulsing with the Tree’s essence, to protect their sacred groves.

Some say the branch was severed in battle against an ancient evil, the Tree sacrificing a limb to save the woodlands. Others claim it was a reward for the circles’ devotion. Whatever the tale, the branch is a symbol of nature’s enduring power.

The branch is a gnarled piece of wood, wrapped in living vines that pulse with an inner light. Runes carved deep into its surface tell of its magical nature. In battle, the branch’s vines strike out, lashing foes with nature’s wrath. Its magic grants the wielder rooted resilience, making them almost impossible to knock down. Sometimes, faint whispers from Yggdrasil itself can be heard, offering guidance and warnings. In moments of great need, the Branch can transform into a mighty treant to protect the wielder and their allies, though this act consumes it, leaving only a few leaves in its wake.

Branch of the World Tree

Weapon (Any Club), Very Rare (Requires Attunement)

You have a +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with this magic club. When you hit a creature with this weapon, you can cause vines to lash out and deal slashing damage equal to your proficiency bonus to a different creature within 10 feet of yourself. You also gain advantage on any ability checks or saves to avoid being knocked prone.

As an action, you can plant the club into the ground and transform it into a treant. It vanishes, along with the club, after an hour or when it is reduced to 0 hit points. The treant is friendly to you and your allies, acts on your turn, and follows your commands (no action required).
