The Vault: Spectercles

In the old town of Hollow, the mist hung thick. There, the living and the dead walked a fine line. In the town’s center center stood a well, worn and deep, but holding more than just water. They said it was a bridge to the spirit world, where ghosts wandered.

The ghosts grew restless, causing trouble fore the townsfolk. To remedy the situation, the village council called upon its best minds—engineers, spiritualists, and enchanters. Together, they made something new: spectercles. With these magical spectacles, ghost hunters, or “busters,” could sense the undead and even see into the Ethereal plane. It was a practical solution, born of necessity.

It started with a young boy that saw ghosts where others only saw shadows. He was desperate to show the truth. He worked closely with the enchanters, crafting the first spectercles. It took time and effort, but together, they succeeded. Now, the busters could see what he saw.

A spiritualist improved the spectercles. His work let wearers not just see ghosts, but reveal them to all, if only for a moment. This allowed his allies to help contain spirits and or cleanse them if necessary.

Spectercles

Wondrous Item, Uncommon

While wearing these spectacles, you know the location of any undead creature within 60 feet of you. Furthermore, you can see 60 feet into the Ethereal Plane while on the Material Plane, and vice versa.

As an action, you can cast the faerie fire spell (save DC 15). Once this feature has been used, it cannot be used again until the next dawn.
