The Vault: Rune Die

A fellowship of legendary seers, called Rune Carvers, did forge a wondrous relic known as the rune die. Its modest form becometh that of a simple pyramid, yet it, in time, would possess a great might. The die was conceived to seize the flow of magical vigour to empower its possessor.

To those capable of perceiving arcane energy, the die doth radiate divination and transmutation magic. Close investigation of the die reveals small flecks of polished bone shards contained within, as the remains of rare creatures are important components in the creation process.

Intricate runes, radiating a vibrant glow, adorn every facet, embodying diverse aspects of occult wisdom and primordial forces. Each time the die is rolled, additional faces manifest upon its surface. As the die swells in magnitude, the runes grow more intricate, channeling mightier energies.

Rune Die

Wondrous Item, Rare

This die glows faintly with magical energy. When the die is discovered, roll on the table below to determine it’s type. Its size starts as a d4. After it’s rolled, the die size increases by one step (d4 to d6, d6 to d8, etc.) until it reaches a d20. After the d20 is rolled, it disintegrates.

As a bonus action, you can roll the die. Note the number rolled and check the effect column below.
