Monster Harvest

Listen here, you lot. You might think a dead Xorn is just a pile of worthless rocks and guts, but you couldn’t be more wrong. These blighters eat treasure, and if you know what you’re doing, you can sift through their innards and come up with some serious coin. It’s not a job for the faint of heart, but if you’re looking to survive in this business, you gotta be willing to get your hands dirty.

Taking down a monster can yield far more than just experience points and loot. Many creatures leave behind a carcass that’s ripe for harvesting valuable materials. From enchanted body parts to deadly natural weapons, a skilled character equipped with the right tools can extract a veritable bounty from a vanquished creature.

Harvesting a monster’s remains takes 10 minutes and requires a successful ability check specified in the entries below. One character can attempt to harvest from a monster’s remains one time.


Rust Monster Antenna Extract Vial

Crafting: A character proficient with alchemist’s supplies can use them to extract the rusting secretions from the rust monster’s antennae. A successful DC 12 Intelligence (Alchemist’s Supplies) check to create one vial.

Effect: As an action, you can splash the contents of this vial onto a creature or object within 5 feet of you or throw the vial up to 20 feet, shattering it on impact. In either case, make a ranged attack against a creature or object, treating the extract as an improvised weapon. On a hit, a creature wearing non-magical metal armor or shield, or an object made of metal applies a -1 penalty to their AC. The penalty is cumulative.

Manticore Tail Spike Ammunition

Crafting: A character proficient with carpenter’s tools can use them to modify arrows or crossbow bolts with the tail spikes of a manticore. Each spike that remains on the manticore’s tail requires a successful DC 14 Dexterity (Carpenter’s Tools) to modify a single piece of ammunition.

Effect: Modified ammunition has a penalty of -2 to attack rolls. If the attack hits, add +4 to the attack’s damage. Each modified ammunition is destroyed when used to attack.

Xorn Gem Encrusted Stomach

Crafting: A character proficient with jeweler’s tools can use them to remove gems from a dead xorn’s stomach lining. A successful DC 14 Wisdom (Jeweler’s Tools) check removes 2d4 gems of various types worth 6 gp each.

Effect: Each gem can replace a material component of up to 25 gp in value. The gem is destroyed in the process.

Troll Blood Potion

Crafting: A character proficient with alchemist’s supplies can use them to create a potion from the blood of a dead troll. A successful DC 14 Intelligence (Alchemist’s Supplies) check creates one potion from the remains of a troll.

Effect: Using an action to drink the potion restores 1d8 hit points, and for the next four turns, as long as you are not damaged by fire or acid, you regain 1 hit point at the beginning of each turn.

Gelatinous Cube Crystal

Crafting: A character proficient in brewer’s supplies can use them to distill and ferment residual ooze from a dead gelatinous cube to make a crystal spell component. A successful DC 14 Wisdom (Brewer’s Supplies) creates 1d4 crystals worth 7 gp each.

Effect: If you use a gelatinous crystal as a material component when casting a spell that deals acid damage, you deal an extra 1d6 damage. The crystal is destroyed in the process.

Mummy Infused Wrapping

Crafting: A character proficient in weaver’s tools can use them to harvest strips of a defeated mummy’s wrapping. A successful DC 14 Intelligence (Weaver’s Tools) creates 1d4 infused wrappings worth 10 gp each.

Effect: If you use an infused wrapping as a material component in a spell, you can choose to increase the DC of the saving throw of the spell or add a +1 bonus on the spell’s attack roll. The wrapping is destroyed in the process.
