The libram of lore is a coveted tool among scholars, especially those interested in anthropology, archeology, and zoology. Some of these books have quirks their owners must deal with:
- Fading. Some of the its pages fade as it fills with information. It can only hold information for 20 creatures and objects. When a new scan is added, randomly determine one of the old scans to remove.
- Selective. The spirit of an ancient scholar it interred within its pages. Sometimes the scholar will withhold information from the book’s owner, until it gets something it wants, such as a scan of a creature or object important to its former field of research.
- Whispers. The libram intermittently emits faint whispers, audible within 10 feet of it. Usually the whispers consist of random factoids from the information contained within, however, it will occasionally mention something cryptic, possibly horrifying.
Libram of Lore
Wondrous Item (Book), Rare
While holding this book, you can use a bonus action to scan an object or creature within 30 feet of you. If the target is an object, then information about its composition, function, gold piece value, and magical auras (if any) appear in the book. If the target is a creature, then information about its behavior, diet, general capabilities, and habitat appears in the book.
As an action, you can read information about an object or creature in the book to learn its resistances and vulnerabilities. If it has no vulnerabilities, then for the next minute, your weapon attacks and spells deal an additional 1d8 damage to it. Once you use this feature, it cannot be used again until the next dawn.
